Colossians 4:6 – Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
I enjoy spicy foods, and in an effort to eliminate salt, I increased the amount of spice I would use when cooking. But you know what? Salt had to re-enter the picture for me. I use sea salt and pink Himalayan salt. There are health benefits to these salts, as well as added flavor and color.
Today’s verse is a lot like my description of spice and salt. Gracious speech, like spices, can be a welcome ingredient; but what ‘pulls’ it all together is even a dash of salt. Salt enhances the flavor in spices, and the aforementioned types of salt can have beneficial mineral content; not to mention salt is a preservative.

As you go about your day, I encourage you to think about this:
- Consider your words: will they add grace to the hearer?
- Is what you’re about to say, going to improve or preserve love and understanding?
- What is your motivation for wanting to say what’s on your mind?
- Would your words be something you would like spoken to you or a loved one?
- Are you considering what’s best for the hearer?
No one said this was easy, but the rewards of being seasoned with salt, are great. I’ve seen relationships restored, situations resolved, and healing and joy reestablished. May your thoughts and words be seasoned with salt today.
Blessings of grace and salt,
Jacquie ♥

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14!! Very important truth, Jacquie! ❤️ Something most people take lightly!! Timely reminder for us all!! 👍🤝

This is right on target. I always tell myself that if I have nothing good to say I will not say anything. It does take practice to always speak kind words but eventually practice becomes perfect. Thanks for sharing.

So true Beverley. My father used to tell us, “if you don’t have anything nice to say…” Honestly, I didn’t think it possible; and without the Lord’s help, it isn’t. May we be brothers and sisters of salt and grace. 🙏

This was an excellent post. I enjoyed how you gave the practical example about spices and linked it to our words. Today, I made a decision to not participate in a back and forth conversation on Twitter I was copied on. This post confirmed I did the right thing. Every battle does not belong to us and we have to use wisdom. Thank you for sharing.

This very verse has been on my mind a lot for the past few days. It’s made me sad and disappointed to read the comments and posts from some Christ followers as they disagree over all this virus and mask mess. This verse is a call for me to be mindful of my approach and my speech. You worded it beautifully, Jacquie. Thank you!

What you say is true, Patty. We need to be mindful of our speech; a renewed mind can take us where we need to be. May we press into God’s Love and Truth; so that we walk as salt and light in this dark and hungry world. You are always an encouragement. Blessings! ♥

I love the example you used, Jacquie! I was going to share the scripture about the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart, but noticed someone already did. Thank you for sharing this with us! 😍

Thank you, Renee! I enjoy when the Lord has us on the same topic. I often write my posts anywhere from 1 to 7 days ahead of time and then schedule them. There have been many times when I would see someone else using the same verse, or topic; and I would take that as confirmation of the message. I hope you will write about Psalm 19:14; because we can ALL use your perspective. Blessings my friend ♥

Yes! I believe God confirms what He is speaking to our hearts so many times that way! A repeated scripture or topic. Something that came to my heart the other day, my pastor spoke about last Wednesday night in his service.
Thank you for the scripture challenge! I shall do my best! Psalms 19:14 is a really good one! 💜
