What is the deal about blessing? I speak blessings to those around me, face to face, and in my prayers; I even close each of my posts with “Blessings, Jacquie.” And I think at least most of us are familiar with being “blessed” when we sneeze. So, what’s the deal?

Currently, I am rereading the book, “The Prayer of Jabez,” by Bruce Wilkinson. The very first thing that Jabez prayed is; “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, ….” I re-read the definition of bless by Dr. Wilkinson:

“To bless in the biblical sense means to ask for or to impart supernatural favor.” To ask for God’s blessing, is to cry “out for the wonderful, unlimited goodness that only God has the power to know about or give us.” (p.23). And through this definition, we receive a fuller understanding of Proverbs 10:22: “The Lord’s blessing is our greatest wealth; all our work adds nothing to it.” (TLB). I don’t know about you, but I find joy in this truth.

Now here is the entire prayer that changed the trajectory of Jabez’s life:

‘Oh that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!’ So God granted him what he requested.”’ I Chronicles 4:10 (NKJV).

As you go about this day, I pray for your greatest wealth; that God would bless you, and that you would ask your loving Father for His blessing, knowing that it is your greatest wealth. Notice that you don’t tell God what blessing to give you; but that too is good news because God is known for doing “abundantly above all you can ask or think.” He is infinite, and we are finite. Let’s trust Him by pressing into His infinite ways, His loving goodness, and His supernatural favor.

Blessings,

Jacquie
