Would a person really give their right arm? If so, what would be the purpose? I have found that we have sayings that make no sense, or sound like a curse: “I love you to death.” This doesn’t sound like “till death us do part.” Are your thoughts fruitful and life-producing?
Our words have power. Countless studies have shown the impact of the thoughts leading to words, and the effect they have on the individual and those around them. We know “sticks and stones can break [one’s] bones,” but we also know that words can kill the soul of another; as can casting a look of disdain, disapproval and so on.
Conversely, words of encouragement, godly principles and truth, have the power to produce life. All that is spoken and done in God’s love brings healing and wholeness. So, we can see why James 3:10 says: “Out of the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things my brothers, should not be this way [for we have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts] AMP. The conflict is revealed in verse nine: “With [the tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.”

Having two opposing thoughts | values produces instability. According to James 1:8, “Being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides];” points to thought power. We wash and renew our soul (mind, will, emotions) when we spend time meditating on God’s Word. What goes in, will eventually come out. Fortunately, believers in Christ have the Holy Spirit to nudge their conscience when thoughts, then words begin to pour forth, which reveal areas of double-mindedness.
My prayer today is that we will be mindful of our thought power before these thoughts become words that mingle blessing and cursing. That we will purpose in our hearts to think on those things that are pure, lovely, excellent, and of good report. (Philippians 4:8). Let’s thank God today that “[He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control] II Timothy 1:7. May we be those whose words are fruitful and produce life.
Blessings and joy,
Jacquie ♥

Excellent reminder Joy. May we be aware of not only our words but our thoughts that lead to what we say.

This is a very vital script. With this kind of practice our fellowship with God and people can be great. We would know God better when we speak life and see His manifestation.

I agree, Maurice. There is such joy to be had as we think, and therefore speak life with God, and our neighbors (those nearest to us). Blessings as you share His life with those around you.

I have spent quite a bit of time in the book of James lately and have also read so much on the power of our words. I’m this time of unusual periods of close proximity to our family. It is even more important to measure our words.

Jacquie, a timely issue, in many cases the words we hear in the media are not kind. Our words define us, and it is troubling when our godly thoughts are not shared lovingly toward each other. Blessings! 🌺🌟

Great reminders, often in my stressful moments my thought get spoken that should stay in my mind. I always think of that being swift to hear and slow to speak is something I try to practice. Good thoughts.

What a great and much-needed reminder! There have been so many times I wish I would have thought before I spoke. Emotions used to play a huge role in my words. I’ve had to learn to stop, take a breath, and ask God to control my mouth! 😀

Michelle, I agree. I think this is an everyone battle. It’s taken time, the Lord, His Word, and my husband’s patience to help me along in all of this. I expect I’ll be active in taking thoughts captive till I’m with Jesus! Blessings ♥

I was reminded of this scripture Monday, while listening to Christian radio. It’s so important to remember that our words can cut like razors or be healing balm. Thanks for the reminder! 🤗💜

Jesus teaches us to love one another, and this applies to our actions, inactions, and our words. It is amazing how a sprinkle of positivity enriches the lives of others . . . just ask the doctors and nurses who routinely witness kindness and compassion as they enter a hospital to begin another shift.

So true. It’s quite the undertaking at times to keep thoughts in check. It’s not enough to not say or do something, God calls upon us to take those unworthy thoughts and replace them with His Word. Blessings and thanks for sharing your thoughts ♥
