Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Proverbs 3:5-6. (AMP).

The things God reveals to us are all we need to progress in His plan. We are accountable only for what He has shown to us. We know that all will happen in His perfect timing. Being reminded of Joseph’s life is a key to keeping our peace through fallen plans or failed promises of others. (Remember Joseph could never have imagined all the horrific things that would happen to him; yet his confidence was in the Lord, not himself, and not in those around him).

I was recently reminded that even though someone may talk a good game, they may not have follow-through. In the midst of deep disappointment, I paused while studying, to ask God: “How are You using this person in my life?” The answer seemed to come quickly, and it was a great reminder not to lean on my own understanding or feelings. The person to which I refer is someone who came into our lives, and really had a heart to support us as missionaries. When a couple of big promises fell through, I felt the sting of disappointment. But waiting on God’s perspective brought this realization: This person is a “door-opener.” She is connected to those who are committed to God’s purposes. And my part? To love, to understand, to forgive, and to trust God.

More importantly, this was yet another reminder from my heavenly Father that my trust must be placed in Him, not people.

Yes, life would be smoother if we could rely on those who open up possibilities, but we would never get to flex our faith muscles. As my (earthly) father taught us, “people are to be loved, and things are to be used.” When we reflect on who God is, then our eyes are turned toward Him, not toward people. We need to be people of our word; and yet we also need to walk in love, trust, and forgiveness when things do not go our way.

“And those who know Your name [who have experienced Your precious mercy] will put their confident trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not abandoned those who seek You” Psalm 9:10.

Only God can confirm and bring to fruition His plans as we participate in obedience. Trusting IN people is misplaced. We can trust others, but God is the only One we can trust IN.

Dear Lord,

Please help us to be people of faith that rely confidently and wholeheartedly on You. Help us to remain thankful in the midst of disappointments, and most importantly, to keep our eyes on you. We know you have created the path for us to walk, so no matter how things look, we can trust in Your intervention. Thank you for loving us and giving us Your perspective. Amen.

Blessings,

Jacquie ♥
